“Strike a pose, there’s nothing to it”

Madonna sang it best in Vogue, when you just need to “let your body go with the flow” to pose.

We get a lot of client questions on how to prepare for a shoot. One of the best ways is to practice posing in front of the mirror. How many of us have sucked in our gut while sticking out our chest in front of the bathroom mirror?

Many of the posing ideas for clients come from our trying to make curves look more flattering before the mirror. Lengthening your torso and twisting your body in S curves can easily take ten pounds off of a client. Those same S curves can make a thin girl look voluptuous.

Yoga, pilates and the Method are also great ways to prep for a shoot. They help you become more flexible and build a stronger core so you can hold poses and create curves more easily.

But most of all, have fun with trying new poses. Check out those silly modeling shows on t.v. Try out what you see in magazines in the privacy of your own bathroom mirror. Move to music by confident women like Madonna, Lady Gaga or Katy Perry.

If all of this posing biz seems a little overwhelming, don’t worry. Maggie and I will be there to guide you throughout the photo shoot, plus you can have a laugh at us as we model sans sexy clothing and make-up. We’ll help you get your Vogue on.

For the OU fans: Boudoir by the Water

You’d think by looking at the sun in the Ms. M’s bikini shoot, it was a hot, balmy August day. Instead, the weather was frigid and the wind was strong enough to make eyes water. Even models struggle in these conditions, but Ms. M rocked it. I bet a certain OU fan is going to be one happy guy when he sees these photos.

Couples Boudoir

Remember this hot sneak peek? Maggie and I (Laurie) are super excited to share the rest of the highlights with you.

Let me preface this post with a disclaimer: no, these aren’t models.

These beautiful souls wanted to document their relationship in a more intimate setting through a couples boudoir session. We at Revealed Boudoir were happy to oblige.

We gave the couple some direction in posing, but the best moments, as you will see below, came when we allowed their natural chemistry unfold.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful relationship with us! Want to do this once-in-a-lifetime experience, contact us!

Chicago Couples Boudoir

Here’s a little sneak peek from a couples boudoir session we photographed recently:

Can you say HOT!? This couple was doing their best to melt Chicago’s snow during their boudoir shoot. Whew! Stay tuned for more photos.

Because Maggie and I had so much fun, we will be offering these couples sessions for the same pricing as our regular boudoir sessions during the entire month of March. (If you sign up for a session in March, you can schedule the session for another time.)  Contact us if you’re interested. We’d love to hear from you!

Thanks Kate for bringing us together!

Maggie and I (Laurie) owe a lot to Kate Winslet, Steven Meisel and Catherine Deneuve for bringing us together to form Revealed Boudoir, the Chicago boudoir photography boutique. One day while working on wedding photos, Maggie and I started talking about how much we love boudoir photography and the positive effect it has on women by making them feel empowered and beautiful. I can’t remember who brought it up, but one of us remarked on one of the most beautiful shoots we’ve ever seen in Vanity Fair: the Belle de Jour -inspired shoot featuring Kate Winslet and photographed by Steve Meisel.

Just stunningly beautiful and sophisticated, don’t ya think? Oh, did I mention HOT?

The minute the shoot was mentioned, I ran to grab my copy of the issue from my bookshelf. The shoot was bookmarked and was the inspiration for the first boudoir shoot I did on my own. Fast forward a year later, Maggie and I still get shivers by the same photographs. Being a gal who always hated group projects (I was the one who had to do all of the work), I never knew how joyous and inspiring it is to work with someone who gets you…AND your vision. Artistically, Maggie and I speak the same language. So what does all of this lovey-dovey ruminating mean for your shoot with Revealed Boudoir? It means that the shoot runs smoothly. There’s no tug-o-war of artistic egos vying for the perfect shot. Sometimes we shoot at the same time, while other times one of us will photograph and the other will help you pose and feel at ease in front of the camera. Each of us have our own strengths that add to the shoot as well.  Maggie is seriously an amazing stylist and accessory guru. My laughter and goofiness breaks the ice. We both love what we do and work really hard at it so you will as well.
